Who we are
Ranch Hand is a mobile app for working ranches, made by Ranch Brand Book. This policy covers the Ranch Hand app and this website. Questions go to bob@getranchhand.com, and a person answers.
What we collect
- Ranch owners who sign in with Google: your name, email address, and the account ID Google gives us. We use these only to sign you in and to reach you about your ranch. We never read your email, contacts, or anything else in your Google account.
- Hands who join with an invite code: the name you type in. No email, no phone number, no account.
- What you log in the app: observations (like a sick cow or a broken fence), the photos you take for them, notes, saved places, and where each was made.
- Ride tracks: when you start a ride, the app records your location, including in the background with the phone in your pocket, until you stop the ride. It doesn't track you outside a ride.
- Map areas an owner chooses to download sharper imagery for.
- The early-access form on this site: your name, email, state, herd size and how you ride out, if you choose to give them.
How we use it
To run the app: to sync what one person logs to the rest of their crew, to show it on the map, and to keep it on your phone so it works with no signal. We use early-access emails to tell you when Ranch Hand is ready for your ranch.
We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers. The app and this site have no ad trackers or third-party analytics.
Who can see it
- Your crew. Everyone who has joined your ranch sees its observations, photos, places, rides and member names. People on other ranches don't.
- Map imagery services. Map pictures come from public government imagery servers, such as the U.S. Geological Survey and state mapping agencies. To draw the map, your phone or our server asks them for the map squares for an area. That tells them which area is being looked at, but nothing about who you are or what you've logged.
- Google handles the sign-in itself when an owner taps Continue with Google, under Google's privacy policy.
- The law. We'd share information if a valid legal process required it, and only what it required.
Where it's kept
On our own server in the United States, and on the phones of your crew so the app works without signal. Traffic between the app and the server is encrypted.
Keeping and deleting it
We keep a ranch's records while the ranch uses Ranch Hand. Leave this ranch in the app clears that ranch's data from your phone. To delete your account, a hand's records, or a whole ranch from our server, email bob@getranchhand.com from the owner's address and we'll do it within 30 days. To come off the early-access list, just reply to any email from us.
Kids
Ranch Hand is made for ranch crews, not children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them. If you think we have, email us and we'll delete it.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects what we collect or who sees it, we'll tell ranch owners by email before it takes effect.
